NewsAvril Lavigne storms to No. 1Canadian pop-rocker Avril Lavigne tops the US album chart with her new set, "The Best Damn Thing," which sold 286,000 copies during its first week in stores. Nine Inch Nails "Year Zero" enters The Billboard 200 chart at No. 2 on sales of 187,000 copies, pushing last week's No. 1 album, the "NOW 23" hits compilation, to No. 3. Billboard bases its album chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail-sales data. Country singer Bucky Covington - who finished eighth on the fifth season of "American Idol"--sold 61,000 copies of his self-titled debut album, enough to chart at No. 4. Martina McBride's "Waking Up Laughing" jumps from No. 8 to No. 5 with sales of 55,000. Rounding out the Top 10 are Akon 's "Konvicted," Daughtry's self-titled debut, Tim McGraw's "Let it Go," Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" and Timbaland's "Timbaland Presents Shock Value." SNOCAP, CD Baby, MySpace Get Chummy The 130,000 indie artists currently signed up with CD Baby are in luck, as the online music store has announced a partnership with MySpace that will allow all registered users one-click access to create SNOCAP MyStores. The SNOCAP MyStore is a digital storefront, backed by SNOCAP's online content registry. As previously reported, MyStore launched in December as a way for unsigned and indie artists to sell their music directly to fans on MySpace and can be posted on any site that hosts HTML code. Now CD Baby artists will be able to sell content directly to fans from any site that allows HTML embedding, including their MySpace pages, their own Web pages, blogs, and e-mail. |
